Chas Guay and Nick Gauthier hail from Prince Edward Island, the smallest province in Canada with one of the most vibrant music communities in the country. Both artists now reside in Ottawa and are presently spreading their east coast vibe around the area.
Chas is a veteran musician and recipient of the ECMA Musical Achievement Award. He has three albums to his name and has composed music for television and theater. He is well known as a bassist, performing in musical theater and as a sideman to numerous touring and recording artists. Chas Guay's music is influenced from folk, rock, jazz, blues and soul (groove-filled) musical styles, with the end result straddling all these genres. He is well known for his musicality and people know to expect something special when settling in to listen to his album or a performance.
Outside of pubic performance and original songwriting, Chas has composed for numerous documentaries, commissioned works and The Food Network’s series with internationally renowned Chef Michael Smith since 2000. His original compositions were also presented at Charlottetown Festival productions of “Come All Ye” and “Canada Rocks”.
At present, his main focus is songwriting and feels in a good place teamed up with fellow Islander ,guitarist Nick Gauthier.
AWARDS:
Musician’s Achievement Award (2011), East Coast Music Association Industry Award
Male Vocalist of the Year (2010), Music PEI – Little City
Pop Album of the Year (2005), Music PEI - Chas Guay and Christina Forgeron

Nick grew up in the fishing village of North Rustico PEI. Music was a constant part of life in his community and certainly helped in the development of his excellent talent. He moved to Ottawa a few years ago and immediately settled into the community as the lead guitar player for the popular Silver Creek, the hardest working roots/rock band in the Ottawa area. He has served as a sideman to Lynne Hanson and Amanda Rheume among others . Also a beautiful singer and songwriter, he's become a much sought after band member in Ontario, as well as a joy to hear in duo's and solo. (I've had the joy of performing with Nick - he's wonderful!)

Two guys with the blues...beautifully done.
On March 30th, local singer-songwriters John Carroll and Tariq Anwar will combine forces to present an evening of blues and more - a rich mix of original songs, and colourful interpretations of well loved songs from the blues cannon. Each will perform a solo set, showcasing their unique voices and contrasting song-writing styles.
John Carroll's successful 25 year career as a singer, songwriter and performer is deeply rooted in his ability to create mindful, pithy, and insightful songs from his observations of everyday life. He is a sure footed teller of yarns, and his tales of wit are woven seamlessly through song and stage banter, making him an enthralling live performer. His songs gain further depth by his skilled finger-style and slide guitar playing, lending an aching melody or creating gritty background for the images embedded in his lyrics. John is the resident musician at The Chateau Lafayette, playing every Wednesday night since 2004.
Tariq Anwar's musical journey began in 2012, with a handful of songs at a handful of open mics in his hometown of Ottawa. His style does not fall easily into any single category, often straddling the lines between folk, grunge and blues. He combines guitars, a rhythm stomp box and harmonicas with a unique voice that can start out sweetly soft and then turn on a dime into a spine-melting scream. He writes songs about personal struggles and observations of downtown urban life. Tariq is the resident musician at Atomic Rooster, playing every Wednesday night since 2016.

Hello Guitar players!
You may know that Rick Fines (Canadian Delta Blues/Juke Joint mulit-award winner) will be in town to play a show with Lynne Miles, Megan Jerome, and Tom Lips, on Jan 21. I asked him, and he agreed to stick around to give a guitar workshop on Sunday, Jan 22, before heading back home to Peterborough. This is a great opportunity! Limit: 8 participants. Find out about Rick at www.rickfines.ca Workshop Description : Rick Fines has designed a workshop that offers up what he considers to be essential knowledge for a versatile guitarist. This is intended for someone venturing beyond first-position chords, who has some knowledge of barre chords and right-hand finger-style playing. An intermediate course, this is not intended for advanced guitarists (who best benefit from individual instruction). The goal here is to provide building blocks to make you a better, more well-rounded guitarist. Although some songs will be used as learning tools, attendees will work on “vocabulary” that can enhance many different songs. Although all aspects of this workshop will be useful for the solo guitarist, the focus will be primarily on ways to be a more effective 2nd guitar player and will explore mostly finger style techniques (not with a pick). There is a notion that there are “rhythm” guitarists and “lead” guitarists, when there should be two guitarists supporting the song, at all times. They should however, always be playing different parts. We’ll look at: - triads and chord inversions - “horn lines” - complimentary rhythm patterns - more… |

Aiken & Beggs
Friday April 8, 7:30pm SOLD OUT Sonny Aiken and Mabel Beggs play American Folk and Country, focused specifically on the recordings, and traditions, prior to the end of WWII. They perform old songs, uniquely interpreted, preserving both the soul of the music, as well as the culture of the time. In February they released an album entitled, “Countless Hours By You I’ve Spent: Aiken & Beggs Play The Carter Family”, a collection of songs based on the original Carter Family recordings (1927-1941). The album was recorded live to quarter-inch tape and captures a sound and quality much like the radio segments of the late 1930’s - when the Carter Family would perform live on air, for an hour every night. doors open at 7pm. Reservations required. $20. Once you have purchased your seat, you will receive an email with the address and directions to Pat's house.
See you on April 8! |
